Getting Over Our Fear of AI
One of the big hurdles of introducing new AI technologies to the world has to do with user perception, as well as the way the products are used and what benefits can be derived from them. People want to feel safe using a product that automates different industries and be able to trust that product to perform flawlessly when in action. You can tell a user thousands of times that the new Artificial Intelligence can automate healthcare and find better answers quickly, but the real challenge comes from changing human perception to be able to find the true value in trusting an algorithm versus their trusted doctors opinion. A lot of this perception has to do with making the user feel comfortable with the new technologies, as well as being able to show verbatim the proven success of the AI in process.
In the article “To Get Consumers to Trust AI, Show Them The Benefits” Ellen Enkel explains that there are three crucial factors in gaining public trust for new AI technology. The most obvious is performance; the product must perform as it should in cases to be able to make users comfortable with it. The second is process; the product needs to let the users understand how it can help in any particular situation. The third is purpose for users to understand and see the practical uses of the AI.
